HOW TO PLAY
Gonggi is a simple yet entertaining game, often played with five small stones or plastic pieces. Here’s how to play the traditional version:
Setup
- You’ll need five Gonggi pieces.
- Sit on a flat surface where the pieces can be easily tossed and caught.
Gameplay Steps
Stage 1: Toss and Pick
- Scatter the five Gonggi pieces on the surface.
- Pick one piece and toss it into the air.
- While it’s in the air, quickly pick up one piece from the surface and catch the tossed piece before it falls.
- Repeat this until all pieces are picked up one by one.
Stage 2: Picking Two Pieces
- Scatter the pieces again.
- Toss one piece into the air.
- Pick up two pieces at a time from the surface while catching the tossed piece.
- Repeat until all pieces are picked up in pairs.
Stage 3: Picking Three Pieces
- Repeat the process, but this time pick up three pieces and then the last one.
Stage 4: Picking All Four
- Toss one piece into the air.
- Pick up all four remaining pieces at once while catching the tossed piece.
Stage 5: The Back of the Hand
- Toss all five pieces into the air and catch them on the back of your hand.
- Toss them again and catch as many as possible in your palm.
Winning the Game
The player who completes all stages without dropping the pieces wins. You can also make it competitive by timing each player or adding variations to the stages.
